The add-on price, the promotion behind it, the four ways Copilot reaches your invoice, and the prerequisite licence that sets the real entry cost.
The short answer
Microsoft 365 Copilot Business costs USD 18.00 per user per month on a yearly commitment, a promotion against USD 21.00, or USD 25.20 billed monthly, and requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan. For 50 users that is USD 10,800 a year, rising to USD 12,600 if the promotion ends.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is the easiest AI seat to buy and the hardest to budget, because the price you see is not the price you pay. The add-on is USD 18.00 per user per month on a yearly commitment, but that is a promotional rate against USD 21.00, and it applies only on top of a Microsoft 365 licence you already hold.
Copilot can also reach your invoice four ways. This guide prices all of them, using figures read off Microsoft's business Copilot page on 17 October 2026 for the United States market.
Prices below were recorded on 17 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
Copilot is an add-on and not a plan, and that fact drives the budget. Existing business customers need a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan underneath it, and anyone without one has to buy an eligible subscription first. The USD 18.00 yearly rate is a promotion against an original USD 21.00, so model the renewal at USD 21.00 unless the promotion is written into your agreement. The monthly commitment is USD 25.20, about 40% more per user than the yearly rate, and both options auto-renew. Microsoft also sells bundles that fold Copilot into Business Standard and Business Premium, with cheaper variants that exclude Teams, so the same AI can arrive on your invoice under four SKU names. Prices shown are for the United States market only.
The tier trap
The trap is not a feature tier. It is the prerequisite. Copilot Business is sold as an add-on, so the headline USD 18.00 only applies on top of a qualifying Microsoft 365 licence you already pay for. If you do not have one, the real entry price is that base subscription plus USD 18.00, which is why the bundled Business Standard with Copilot SKU at USD 23.50 can be the cheaper route in.
Read this first. All Copilot prices, the USD 18.00 against USD 21.00 promotion, the bundled SKU prices (including the no-Teams variants), the auto-renewal statement and the free Copilot Chat entitlement were read on microsoft.com on 17 October 2026, United States market. The page does not name the qualifying Microsoft 365 plans, only that one is required, so check Microsoft's prerequisite-licences page. The USD 18.00 rate is promotional, which makes it the most perishable number on this page. Re-check it before you buy. Copilot Studio and agent consumption packs are not priced here. This page covers the business add-on and bundled SKUs only.

Our view
For a company already standardized on Microsoft 365, Copilot at USD 18.00 per user per month on a yearly commitment is the cheapest published AI seat of the big names, and having it inside Word, Excel and Outlook, and not in a separate tab, is the real argument for it. The caveats matter: the price is promotional against USD 21.00, and it works only on top of a licence you already hold.
You may be overpaying if
You licensed every user instead of the ones the adoption analytics show using it, you are on a monthly commitment without needing the flexibility, or Copilot is already inside a bundled SKU you also bought as a standalone add-on.
Copilot Chat is included at no additional cost for eligible Microsoft Entra users on an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. Use it to find out who needs a licensed seat.
The add-on includes adoption, usage and business impact analytics. Run them before renewal and license the users they show, not the org chart.
USD 18.00 against USD 25.20 per user per month is about 29% off. On 50 users that is USD 4,320 a year.
Microsoft shows USD 18.00 as a promotion against an original USD 21.00. Ask for the promotional rate to be held for the term in writing, or budget the USD 21.00.
Business Standard with Copilot is USD 23.50 and Business Premium with Copilot is USD 32.00, with cheaper no-Teams variants at USD 20.30 and USD 28.80. Price your base licence plus add-on against those before choosing.
Claude Team and ChatGPT Business are both USD 20 per seat per month on annual billing and need no prerequisite licence. That is a credible alternative to put on the table at renewal.

The add-on and the Microsoft 365 licence beneath it move together. Put both renewals on one dated reminder with one owner.
Bottom line. Turn on free Copilot Chat first, license the users the analytics show, commit yearly, and get the promotional rate held for the term in writing. Put the Copilot and Microsoft 365 renewals on the same reminder.
The Copilot Business add-on is USD 18.00 per user per month on a yearly commitment, shown as a promotion against an original USD 21.00, or USD 25.20 per user per month billed monthly. Both terms auto-renew, and the price is for the United States market.
Yes. Copilot Chat is available at no additional cost to eligible Microsoft Entra account users with an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. It does not include Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, the pre-built agents or the adoption analytics.
Microsoft sells Copilot Business as an add-on and says existing business customers need a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan, linking to a prerequisite-licences page for the list. Anyone without one must buy an eligible subscription first, which makes the real entry cost the base licence plus USD 18.00.
The yearly commitment is about 29% cheaper than monthly, USD 18.00 against USD 25.20. The USD 18.00 is itself a promotion against USD 21.00, so the most valuable thing to negotiate is holding that promotional rate for the full term in writing.
Yes. USD 18.00 per user per month on a yearly commitment against USD 25.20 billed monthly is about 29% off, or USD 4,320 a year on 50 users. The bundled SKUs follow the same pattern, for example Business Standard with Copilot at USD 23.50 yearly against USD 28.20 monthly.
Claude Team and ChatGPT Business are both USD 20 per seat per month on annual billing, and neither requires a prerequisite licence, so for a company not already on Microsoft 365 they are cheaper all in. Gemini Enterprise Business is USD 21 per seat per month on an annual plan.
