Every ChatGPT plan a company is likely to meet, the difference between expensed Plus plans and a Business workspace, and where power users raise the bill.
The short answer

ChatGPT plans and prices
ChatGPT pricing now has several rungs, from a free tier to Pro at USD 200 a month and quote-based Enterprise. For companies the real decision is between people expensing individual plans and a managed Business workspace.
This guide uses OpenAI's help center for Plus, Pro and Business prices, since the pricing page did not display amounts when we checked.
Prices below were recorded on 21 September 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
ChatGPT Business needs at least 2 seats and costs USD 20 per Standard seat per month on annual billing or USD 25 monthly. Premium seats, with 5 times the usage and no 5-hour limit, cost USD 100 annually or USD 125 monthly, and a workspace can mix both. Seats are paid capacity, separate from the members assigned to them, and teams can buy workspace credits for usage beyond included limits. API usage is not included and is billed separately. Enterprise is sold on annual contracts through sales.
The tier trap
Individual Plus subscriptions on expense reports give you no SSO, no admin console and no central billing. Once security gets involved, everyone moves to Business at USD 20 to USD 25 per seat, and SCIM or data residency means Enterprise.

The Go price of USD 8 and the price history come from CloudZero. Team was renamed Business. According to OpenAI's help center, new signups and upgrades to Pro at USD 200 were temporarily paused as of 10 September 2026, so check availability. The comparison figures for other AI assistants come from the dataset and were not re-verified.

Which ChatGPT plan should you pick?
Plus
Pick it if one person needs advanced models and deep research for USD 20 a month.
Pro
Pick it if one person consistently hits Plus limits or runs heavy Codex and research work.
Business
Pick it if two or more people need SSO, an admin console and business data kept out of training.
Enterprise
Pick it if you need SCIM, data residency, invoicing or a negotiated contract.
Our view
ChatGPT Business is reasonable value at USD 20 a seat for teams that want sanctioned AI with SSO, and it is cheaper than paying for scattered Plus plans. The bill climbs when power users need Premium seats and when API work is added separately.
You may be overpaying if
Staff expense their own Plus plans alongside a Business workspace, you pay for Premium seats that light users do not need, or seats sit unassigned.
How to pay less for ChatGPT
Consolidate expensed Plus plans
Move individual Plus subscriptions into one Business workspace with SSO and central billing.
Commit annually
Business Standard drops from USD 25 to USD 20 per seat, a 20 percent saving.
Mix Standard and Premium seats
Give Premium only to the few people who hit limits. Everyone else stays on Standard.
Reclaim idle seats
Review seat assignments monthly, since seats are billed as capacity.
Ask about the nonprofit discount
OpenAI lists up to 75 percent off Business or Enterprise for eligible nonprofits.
Price the alternatives
Claude Team and Google AI plans offer similar seat pricing, and Microsoft 365 Copilot may already be in scope.

- 2 April 2026: ChatGPT Business price cut by USD 5 per seat (CloudZero).
- 9 April 2026: a USD 100 Pro tier was added below the USD 200 Pro plan (CloudZero).

Keeping ChatGPT spend under control
AI assistants spread through expense reports faster than any tool before them. Within a quarter a company can have sixty individual subscriptions and no admin view of any of them.
- Track who holds a seat. Keep one list of paid seats, their owners and the date each was last used. Our guide to vendor management shows how to set that up.
- Put renewals on a calendar. Log every renewal date and notice period in a contract renewal tracker so nobody finds out after the term rolls over.
- Route new buys through one request. Cards and expense claims hide duplicate subscriptions. A short purchase requisition step catches them before the first payment.
- Know your whole software bill. Pull every vendor into one view with a spend analysis template, then look at the tools with the fastest growth.
Bottom line. Put everyone on Business Standard, give Premium only to proven power users and commit annually once usage settles. Then find and cancel expensed Plus plans every quarter.

Yes. Annual billing cuts Business from USD 25 to USD 20 per seat. OpenAI lists up to 75 percent off Business or Enterprise for nonprofits, and verified US K-12 teachers get ChatGPT for Teachers free through June 2027.
Is ChatGPT cheaper billed annually?
For Business, yes. Standard seats cost USD 20 a month on annual billing against USD 25 monthly, and Premium seats USD 100 against USD 125. For a 50-seat team, annual billing saves USD 3,000 a year on Standard seats alone.
What is the cheapest alternative to ChatGPT?
Google AI Plus costs USD 4.99 a month for individuals. For teams, Claude Team Standard seats cost USD 20 a month on annual billing, the same as ChatGPT Business Standard, so compare on features and usage limits.
