Slack pricing in 2026: Pro vs Business+ and what 50 people really pay
Every Slack plan in plain numbers, how Slack decides who counts as a billable member, and what changes at renewal.

Slack plans and prices
Slack starts free, spreads through a company one channel at a time, and then turns up as a real line in the budget. The list prices are public and simple.
What catches finance teams out is the rest: which plan security actually requires, who counts as a billable member, and what happens at renewal. All three are covered below, using prices from Slack's own pricing page.
Prices below were recorded on 18 September 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
Slack's Fair Billing Policy charges only for members who were active in the last 28 days, and gives you credit for paid members who go inactive. Guests in a single channel are free. Guests added to more than one channel are billed like full members. On annual plans, members added mid-term are billed on the last day of the month.
The tier trap
SAML SSO, SCIM and data residency all start on Business+. If your security policy needs any one of them, budget for Business+ from day one.
Read this first. The September 2022 Pro price change in the price history below comes from Slack's own announcement, and the 2025 Business+ change comes from a third party write-up, so treat that one as reported rather than confirmed.

Which Slack plan should you pick?
Free
Pick it if you are testing Slack with a small team and 90 days of history is enough.
Pro
Pick it if you need full history, group huddles and channels with clients or vendors.
Business+
Pick it if IT requires SAML, SCIM, data residency or full message exports.
Enterprise+
Pick it if you need HIPAA support, DLP, audit logs, legal holds or many workspaces.
Our view
For most teams of 5 to 100 people, Pro is good value, because it removes the history limit at the lowest paid price. Business+ earns its roughly doubled price only when identity, residency or export controls are hard requirements.
You may be overpaying if
You already license Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and only need basic chat, half your members rarely post, or you moved to Business+ only for the AI features.
How to pay less for Slack
Clean up members and guests
Deactivate leavers and move multi-channel guests to single channels before seats are counted.
Commit annually
Annual billing is about 17 percent cheaper than monthly on both Pro and Business+.
Use what you already own
If Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace is on your bill, Teams or Chat is already paid for. That is real bargaining power.
Buy at quarter end
Slack is part of Salesforce, whose fiscal year ends on 31 January.
Go multi-year on Enterprise+
Vendr reports that multi-year Slack deals can bring a further 10 to 15 percent.
Ask about discount programs
Slack runs programs for qualifying nonprofits and schools.

Price changes we know of
- September 2022: Pro rose from USD 6.67 to USD 7.25 per user per month on annual billing, and from USD 8 to USD 8.75 monthly.
- 2025: Business+ rose from USD 12.50 to USD 15 on annual billing, as the separate AI add-on was folded into the plan (reported by a third party).

Keeping Slack spend under control
Slack is the classic bottom-up tool. It arrives free, grows by invitation, and ends up as a line item that nobody remembers approving. The fix is boring and works: one owner, one renewal date, one number of paid seats.
- Track who holds a seat. Keep one list of paid seats, their owners and the date each was last used. Our guide to vendor management shows how to set that up.
- Put renewals on a calendar. Log every renewal date and notice period in a contract renewal tracker so nobody finds out after the term rolls over.
- Route new buys through one request. Cards and expense claims hide duplicate subscriptions. A short purchase requisition step catches them before the first payment.
- Know your whole software bill. Pull every vendor into one view with a spend analysis template, then look at the tools with the fastest growth.
Bottom line. Start on Pro. Move to Business+ only when SAML, SCIM or data residency are hard requirements, and commit annually once adoption is proven. Treat the renewal as a project with a date and an owner, 90 days before the term ends.

How much does Slack cost per user?
Slack Pro costs USD 7.25 per user per month billed annually, or USD 8.75 billed monthly. Business+ costs USD 15 annually or USD 18 monthly. Slack bills only members who were active in the last 28 days, and gives credit for those who go inactive.
Is there a free version of Slack?
Yes, with no time limit. Slack Free shows only the last 90 days of messages and files, allows 10 app integrations, limits huddles and Slack Connect to one-to-one, and deletes data older than one year.
How much is Slack Enterprise+?
Slack does not publish Enterprise+ prices. Sales quotes them. Vendr's data from 535 purchases shows Slack Enterprise deals typically between USD 21.95 and USD 28.10 per user per month, with a median of USD 26.18.
Can you get a discount on Slack?
Yes. Annual billing saves about 17 percent, new workspaces can get 50 percent off monthly plans for three months, qualifying nonprofits and schools have their own programs, and Enterprise+ buyers can negotiate multi-year terms.
Is Slack cheaper billed annually?
Yes. Pro drops from USD 8.75 to USD 7.25 per user per month and Business+ from USD 18 to USD 15, a saving of about 17 percent. For a 50-person Business+ team that is USD 1,800 a year.
What is the cheapest alternative to Slack?
Microsoft Teams Essentials is the cheapest mainstream option at USD 4 per user per month on annual billing. If your company already licenses Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, Teams or Google Chat is often included already.
