Notion plans and prices

Notion tends to start as one person's notes, then becomes the company wiki, project tracker and meeting notes tool. Every member added along the way is a paid seat, and since Notion folded its AI into the Business plan, the choice between Plus and Business has become the biggest pricing decision.

This guide walks through Free, Plus, Business and Enterprise with prices checked against Notion's official pricing page.

Prices below were recorded on 12 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works

Notion bills per member, per workspace. Every member takes one paid seat, while guests get page-level access and are not billed, within your plan's guest limit. Members added mid-term are prorated: monthly plans pick them up on the next invoice, and yearly plans are invoiced the following month for the rest of the plan year. Removing members lowers the bill only at the next billing cycle and is not prorated. Yearly billing saves up to 20%, per Notion.

The tier trap

Full Notion AI and SAML SSO both start on Business, so a team that wants AI meeting notes or single sign-on doubles its per-member price from USD 10 to USD 20, with no AI add-on on Plus to fill the gap.

Read this first. notion.com/pricing shows Plus at USD 10 and Business at USD 20 per member with a "save up to 20% with yearly" toggle. The monthly prices (USD 12 Plus, USD 24 Business) come from a 2026 third-party source and need confirming on the monthly toggle. Some 2026 third-party guides list Business at USD 18, which conflicts with the official USD 20. Free trial terms and renewal notice terms are not published on the pricing page. The Confluence alternative price is from a January 2026 third-party article.

What 50 members cost on Plus, Business and monthly billing

Fifty members shows the cost of wanting AI or SSO and of paying monthly.

Where the bill grows

Notion bills per member, and the tier decides what you get. These are the places the bill moves.

AI moved into Business

Full Notion AI is included only on Business and Enterprise, so AI demand from one team can push the whole workspace up a tier.

Custom Agents use credits

Custom Agents are free to try, then billed at USD 10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits on top of seats.

Members versus guests

Anyone added as a member is a paid seat. People who need only a few pages can be guests instead.

Removals are not prorated

Removing members lowers the bill only at the next billing cycle, so annual plans keep paying for leavers until renewal.

Mid-term adds bill retroactively

Members added during a yearly plan are invoiced for the rest of the year plus prorated time already used.

Which Notion plan should you pick?

Free

Pick it if you are an individual or testing Notion and 7 days of page history is enough.

Plus

Pick it if a small team needs unlimited blocks, guests and 30 days of history without AI.

Business

Pick it if you want Notion AI, SAML SSO or private teamspaces.

Enterprise

Pick it if you need SCIM, audit logs, DLP connections or zero data retention for AI.

Our view

Plus is strong value for small teams that use Notion as a shared wiki and project tool. Business is worth its doubled price when people will use AI meeting notes, Agent and search, or when SSO is required. Otherwise it is AI you pay for per member whether anyone uses it or not.

You may be overpaying if

Members who only read a few pages hold paid seats instead of guest access, you moved to Business for SSO or AI that few people use, or Confluence or another wiki you already pay for covers the same ground.

How to pay less for Notion

  1. Use guests for occasional collaborators

Guests are not billed, so contractors and clients who need only a few pages should not be members.

  2. Commit yearly

Yearly billing saves up to 20% per Notion, about 17% on list prices.

  3. Remove leavers before the cycle ends

Removals take effect only at the next billing cycle, so clean up members ahead of each renewal date.

  4. Check real AI usage

Before moving to Business for AI, confirm how many members will use it, and cap Custom Agent credits.

  5. Price the alternatives

Confluence and Airtable give you a competing per-seat number before renewal.

Price changes we know of

  • May 2025: Notion announced Business would rise from USD 15 to USD 20 per member per month with full Notion AI included, replacing the separate USD 10 AI add-on, effective 13 August 2025 (reported by Implicator).

Renewal email you can copy

Fill in the brackets and send it about 90 days before the renewal date. It works best next to your renewal tracker.

Subject: Notion renewal on [renewal date]

Hi [account manager],

Our Notion [plan] subscription renews on [renewal date]. Over the last 90 days, [active members] of the [paid members] we pay for used it.

We would like to renew with [target members] on a [term] term. Before we sign, please send:
1. The current list price and the price you are offering us, line by line.
2. The cap on any price increase at the next renewal.
3. The notice period if we want to cut members or move to another plan.

We are comparing this against [alternative] and plan to decide by [decision date]. If you can offer [target discount] percent off list, or a lower price for a longer term, we are ready to talk this week.

Keeping Notion spend under control

Workspaces fill up with members who joined once and never left. Because removals are not prorated, every stale seat is paid for until the next cycle.

  • Track who holds a seat. Keep one list of paid seats, their owners and the date each was last used. Our guide to vendor management shows how to set that up.
  • Put renewals on a calendar. Log every renewal date and notice period in a contract renewal tracker so nobody finds out after the term rolls over.
  • Route new buys through one request. Cards and expense claims hide duplicate subscriptions. A short purchase requisition step catches them before the first payment.
  • Know your whole software bill. Pull every vendor into one view with a spend analysis template, then look at the tools with the fastest growth.

Bottom line. Start on Plus, keep occasional collaborators as guests, and move to Business only when AI or SSO will be used across the team. Then clean the member list 90 days before renewal and commit yearly once adoption is proven.
