Pricing guide, Email and SMS Marketing
Klaviyo email tiers by active profile, how SMS bills per message, and why list growth moves your tier automatically.
The short answer
Klaviyo Email costs USD 20 a month for 500 active profiles, USD 30 for 1,000, USD 100 for 5,000 and USD 150 for 10,000, with SMS billed per message from about USD 0.01 in the US. A store with 5,000 active profiles pays USD 1,200 a year for email before SMS and add-ons.

Klaviyo prices email by active profiles, the people in your account you can market to, and not by sends or seats. Since February 2025 your email plan must cover your full active profile count, so list growth lands on the invoice automatically.
This guide lays out the Email tiers and messaging rates from Klaviyo's official pricing calculator, then shows what a typical store pays once SMS and growth are counted.
Prices below were recorded on 12 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
Klaviyo bills in advance each billing period, and fees are non-refundable. Since 18 February 2025 your email plan must match or exceed your active profile count. If you go over, Klaviyo moves you to the next tier at the start of the next billing cycle, and auto-downgrade lowers it only if you opt in. Flexible sending bills extra sends upfront at the next tier's rate for that cycle. SMS and other mobile messages are billed per send by destination, and add-ons such as Composer, Customer Hub, Social and Reviews are priced separately.
The tier trap
Email price climbs fast between brackets: USD 100 a month at 5,000 profiles becomes USD 130 at 6,000, and USD 150 at 10,000 becomes USD 350 at 15,000. Because the plan must cover every active profile, a big list import or a promotion that captures thousands of signups moves you up automatically.
Read this first. klaviyo.com/pricing redirected to the /uk/ locale from our location, but its calculator showed USD and the Email tier prices match the US page (USD 20 at 500, USD 30 at 1,000, USD 100 at 5,000, USD 150 at 10,000), so confirm on a US connection. The SMS rate is shown as "USD 0.01 + provider fees per send" for US toll-free while a footnote says provider fees are included, so the third scenario is labelled before provider fees. Klaviyo no longer sells a bundled Email plus SMS plan on the page, so the Email plus SMS card here means the Email plan plus pay-per-message. Some Email tiers jump unevenly (10,000 profiles USD 150, 10,500 USD 175, 15,000 USD 350), and figures are as shown on the calculator.

Klaviyo prices by active profile, so this table follows a 5,000-profile store through list growth and a 10,000-text SMS month.
| Scenario | Cost per year | Against the headline |
|---|---|---|
| Email plan (5,000 active profiles) | USD1,200 | Headline price |
| Unengaged profiles push the count to 6,000, so the 6,000-profile tier (6,000 active profiles) | USD1,560 | +USD 360 |
| Add 10,000 US SMS a month at USD 0.01 each (5,000 active profiles) | USD2,400 | +USD 1,200 before provider fees |

Pick it if you have under 250 profiles and are testing email and SMS.

Our view
Klaviyo is worth it for ecommerce brands whose revenue depends on segmented flows built on store data. It is expensive for content newsletters or B2B lists, and it gets costly when unengaged profiles stay active and push the account up a tier.
You may be overpaying if
A large share of active profiles have not opened or clicked in six months, you send newsletters with no store data behind them, or SMS spend has grown without anyone tracking revenue per message.
Suppress profiles that have not engaged in months so they stop counting toward your tier.
Select auto-downgrade in billing preferences so the plan drops when your count falls.
Small growth past 5,000 or 10,000 profiles costs USD 30 to USD 200 a month more, so clean the list before you cross.
Track revenue per text and cut segments where SMS does not pay for itself.
Review Composer, Customer Hub, Reviews and Social each quarter.
Mailchimp, MailerLite and ActiveCampaign cost less per contact for many lists.

Profile counts rise with every promotion and import, and the plan follows automatically. Nobody approves the new tier before it bills.
Bottom line. Email by profile tier suits most stores, with SMS added only where it pays back. Suppress unengaged profiles, opt in to auto-downgrade and review SMS spend monthly.
Klaviyo Email costs USD 20 a month for up to 500 active profiles, USD 30 for 1,000, USD 60 for 2,500, USD 100 for 5,000 and USD 150 for 10,000. SMS and other mobile messages are billed per send on top, from about USD 0.01 per US toll-free text.
Yes. The Free plan covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, plus USD 5 of mobile messages and USD 5 of Composer usage. Email support is included for the first 60 days, and sending can be paused once you exceed the limits.
Klaviyo bills SMS per message by destination and not in a bundled plan. US toll-free texts are listed from USD 0.01 per send plus provider fees, while MMS, WhatsApp and international messages are priced separately. The Free plan includes USD 5 of mobile messages a month.
Klaviyo publishes no annual discount. New accounts have seen a USD 19 first-month credit on the 500-profile Email plan. The main savings come from suppressing unengaged profiles, opting in to auto-downgrade and negotiating custom terms at enterprise volume.
Klaviyo bills on active profiles and advises suppressing profiles that no longer provide value so you are not paying for them. Since February 2025 your plan must cover your active profile count, and exceeding it upgrades you at the next billing cycle.
MailerLite Comfort starts at USD 12 a month for 500 subscribers, or USD 10.80 billed yearly. Mailchimp Essentials starts at USD 13 for 500 contacts. Both cost less than Klaviyo for newsletters, though with less ecommerce data in automations.
