Shopify plans and prices

Shopify's subscription is usually the smallest part of what a store pays it. Card processing, third-party payment fees, point-of-sale add-ons and apps all scale with sales, so the right plan depends on volume as much as features.

This guide lays out every plan from Shopify's official US pricing page, then shows what a store really pays once fees are counted.

Prices below were recorded on 12 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works

Shopify charges one subscription per store, billed monthly or yearly, and yearly billing saves about 25% on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Every sale also carries card processing, online from 2.9% plus 30 cents on Basic down to 2.25% plus 30 cents on Plus, with an extra 1% on international cards. Stores that use a provider other than Shopify Payments pay a further 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% per sale depending on plan. Plus starts at USD 2,300 a month on a 3-year term (USD 2,500 on a 1-year term) and can be cancelled only when the term ends.

The tier trap

Basic includes no additional staff accounts, so the moment a second person needs their own login you move to Grow at USD 79 a month, almost three times the Basic price.

Read this first. Prices were read on shopify.com/pricing as served to a US visitor. A direct fetch from our location showed INR, so the US page was read through a US-rendered copy. The Plus page shows "Starting at USD 2,500" and USD 2,300, and pairing USD 2,500 with a 1-year term and USD 2,300 with a 3-year term is inferred from layout and matches 2026 third-party sources. Shopify's variable platform fee for larger Plus merchants is not published. The Starter plan is not on the US pricing page and is excluded. The trial offer (3 days free, then USD 1 a month for 3 months) is promotional and may change.

Where the bill grows

The subscription is one line. Most of the bill is fees tied to sales.

Third-party payment fees

Any provider other than Shopify Payments adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus to every sale.

Card processing

Online card rates run from 2.9% plus 30 cents on Basic to 2.25% plus 30 cents on Plus, plus 1% on international cards.

POS Pro per location

Retail stores pay USD 89 a month per location for POS Pro on Basic, Grow and Advanced.

Marketplace order fees

Over 50 synced marketplace orders a month cost 1%, up to USD 99 a month.

Apps and themes

Most stores add paid apps and premium themes from third parties, billed outside the plan.

Plus term lock-in

Plus runs on 1 or 3-year terms and can be cancelled only when the commitment expires.

Which Shopify plan should you pick?

Basic

Pick it if one person runs the store and sales are still modest.

Grow

Pick it if you have staff who need their own accounts and want lower card rates.

Advanced

Pick it if online volume is high enough that the 2.5% card rate and 0.6% third-party fee save more than the extra USD 220 a month.

Plus

Pick it if you need B2B, checkout customization, many locations or unlimited staff on a multi-year contract.

Our view

Shopify is strong value for brands where ecommerce is the business, because the platform, checkout and app store are hard to match. The plan price matters less than the fee structure, so stay on Shopify Payments and move up a plan only when card savings or staff needs justify it.

You may be overpaying if

You pay a third-party payment fee on every sale when Shopify Payments would work, you are on Advanced with sales too low for the lower card rate to pay back, or you pay for POS Pro at locations that rarely trade.

How to pay less for Shopify

  1. Bill yearly

Yearly billing cuts Basic from USD 39 to USD 29, Grow from USD 105 to USD 79 and Advanced from USD 399 to USD 299 a month, about 25%.

  2. Use Shopify Payments

Avoid the 0.2% to 2% third-party transaction fee on every sale.

  3. Model the card-rate break-even

Compare monthly online sales against the card-rate difference before upgrading for lower rates.

  4. Prune apps

Review paid apps every quarter and cancel the ones nobody uses.

  5. Choose the Plus term deliberately

A 3-year Plus term is USD 200 a month cheaper than 1 year, but locks you in until it expires.

  6. Price the alternatives

BigCommerce and Squarespace give you a competing number before renewal.

Renewal email you can copy

Fill in the brackets and send it about 90 days before the renewal date. It works best next to your renewal tracker.

Keeping Shopify spend under control

A store accumulates apps, themes and payment settings that each bill separately. Without one owner, nobody notices a third-party payment fee running on every sale.

  • Count the users who log in. Sales, marketing and revenue operations often buy the same type of tool separately. Compare logins against paid seats before every renewal.
  • Calendar the renewal and notice window. Annual contracts for data and engagement tools often renew at a higher price. A renewal tracker keeps the date visible.
  • Check the data terms before you sign. Contact data brings privacy duties with it. Ask for the data processing terms during supplier onboarding, not after go-live.
  • Add the tool to your software spend view. Use a spend analysis template to see what go-to-market tools cost as a group.

Bottom line. Start on Basic, move to Grow when staff need accounts, and treat Advanced and Plus as fee and contract decisions, not feature upgrades. Then review apps, payment providers and the renewal date every year.
