Pricing guide, Video and Podcast Editing
Every Descript plan in plain numbers, how seat caps and media hours decide the plan, and what a 3-person team pays.
The short answer
Descript costs USD 16 per person per month on Hobbyist, USD 24 on Creator and USD 50 on Business billed annually (USD 24, USD 35 and USD 65 monthly), with a free plan and quote-based Enterprise. A 3-person team pays USD 864 a year on Creator or USD 1,800 on Business at list price.

Descript edits video and audio like a document, which is why podcast and marketing teams adopt it fast. The bill is per person, but each plan also caps media hours, AI credits and how many seats you can add, so the right plan depends on how much you record and how big the team is.
This guide breaks down Free, Hobbyist, Creator, Business and Enterprise using prices from Descript's official pricing page.
Prices below were recorded on 12 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
Descript bills per person, and every seat on Creator or Business is billed separately. Media hours and AI credits are allotted per editor each month, and only Creator and Business can buy top-ups. Hobbyist allows one seat, Creator up to 3 and Business up to 5, so larger teams need an Enterprise quote. Paid plans are charged to a credit card, and ACH and custom invoicing are Enterprise only. Annual billing is 23% to 33% cheaper than monthly depending on the plan.
The tier trap
Seat caps decide the plan more than features. Creator stops at 3 seats and Business at 5, and SSO and SCIM are Enterprise only. A sixth editor, or a security team that requires SSO, moves you from list prices to a custom quote.
Read this first. descript.com/pricing shows two prices per plan without labeling billing terms. We treat the lower as annual (USD 16, USD 24, USD 50) and the higher as monthly (USD 24, USD 35, USD 65), which matches 2026 third-party guides (Castmagic). Top-up prices for extra media hours and AI credits are not published. Renewal terms and trial terms are not published. The Riverside pricing page we read was marked as a staging version, so confirm the USD 24 Pro price.
Move the slider to see what each plan costs at your size. The figures use the list prices on this page and leave out tax, add-ons and any discount you negotiate.
Three people shows the cost of brand controls and priority support, and of paying monthly.
| Scenario | Cost per year | Against the headline |
|---|---|---|
| Creator, billed annually (3 people) | USD864 | Headline price |
| Brand Studio and priority support, so Business annually (3 people) | USD1,800 | +USD 936 |
| Business paid monthly instead of annually (3 people) | USD2,340 | +USD 540 |

Pick it if you are testing Descript and 1 media hour a month with watermarked 720p export is enough.
Pick it if one person edits a few hours of content a month in 1080p.
Pick it if up to 3 people publish regularly and need 4K export and top-ups.
Pick it if up to 5 people need Brand Studio, more AI credits and priority support.
Pick it if you need more than 5 seats, SSO and SCIM, or invoiced billing.
Our view
Creator is the best value for most podcast and video teams, with 30 media hours per editor, 4K export and top-ups at USD 24 per person on annual billing. Business is worth roughly double only when brand controls, heavy AI use or priority support matter.
You may be overpaying if
Editors on Business rarely use their 1,500 AI credits, you pay monthly for a tool you use every week, or people who only review cuts hold paid seats.
Annual prices are 23% to 33% below monthly, and Descript says savings reach up to 35%.
Compare media hours actually used per editor with the plan allowance before upgrading.
Only people who edit need a seat, so share drafts for review instead.
Descript offers special rates for students, educators and nonprofits through a request form.
Kapwing and Riverside give you a competing number before renewal.
Renewal email you can copy
Fill in the brackets and send it about 90 days before the renewal date. It works best next to your renewal tracker.

If this vendor does not fit, these are the closest options and what they charge.
| Alternative | Starting price | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| Kapwing | USD16 per member per month (Pro, annual) | You mainly edit short social videos in the browser |
| Riverside | USD24 per month (Pro, annual) | Recording remote interviews matters more than text-based editing |
| Descript Free | Free | One person edits under an hour of media a month and can accept watermarked 720p exports |
Creative tools spread by editor. Each seat bills separately, and allowances are per editor, so the combined cost and the unused hours are both hard to see.
Bottom line. Start on Creator for a small team, pay annually once the workflow sticks, and move to Business only when brand controls or heavy AI use justify it. Review seats and media hours 90 days before renewal.
