BambooHR pricing in 2026: Core, Pro and Elite per employee, and the flat rates under 26 people

Every BambooHR plan price, the flat-rate cliff at 25 employees, why performance reviews force the move to Pro, and which add-ons carry no price.

The short answer

BambooHR costs USD 10 to USD 25 per employee per month: Core USD 10, Pro USD 17 and Elite USD 25, with volume discounts applied automatically. Companies of 25 or fewer employees pay flat rates of USD 250, USD 425 or USD 650 a month instead. At list price a 100-person company pays USD 12,000 a year on Core or USD 20,400 on Pro.

BambooHR plans and prices

BambooHR does something most HR vendors avoid: it publishes prices. Core is USD 10, Pro USD 17 and Elite USD 25 per employee per month, with volume discounts applied automatically as your headcount changes.

The detail is where the cost moves. Below 26 employees the model flips to flat monthly rates, performance management sits behind the middle tier, every add-on is unpriced, and the main page and the FAQ disagree slightly on the per-employee figures.

Prices below were recorded on 17 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

Elite

  • Everything in Pro plus 300 or more compliance training courses
  • flat USD 650 a month for 25 or fewer employees

How billing works

BambooHR prices per employee per month and applies volume discounts automatically, which it says adjust as your team size changes. That helps as you grow and complicates renewal, because the rate you were quoted is tied to a headcount you may no longer have. Below 26 employees the model changes shape: the FAQ lists flat monthly rates of USD 250 for Core, USD 425 for Pro and USD 650 for Elite, so a 12-person company pays the same as a 25-person one and the effective per-employee cost roughly doubles. The published per-employee figures also differ between the main page and the FAQ, USD 10 against USD 10.25 on Core and USD 17 against USD 17.50 on Pro, so confirm your rate in the order form. Payroll and Benefits Administration are US-only add-ons and carry a 15% discount when combined with any plan. Nonprofits get a further 15%. Billing is by credit card or ACH monthly, or by wire or cheque for annual upfront payment.

The tier trap

Performance management is the upgrade trigger. It is not available on Core at any price, so the first time HR commits to running review cycles the whole company moves from USD 10 to USD 17 per employee per month, a 70% increase applied to every head.

Read this first. Prices were read on the official BambooHR pricing page on 17 October 2026. The main page shows Core at USD 10 and Pro at USD 17, while the FAQ shows USD 10.25 and USD 17.50, and both are stated here. No free trial is mentioned on the pricing page, so none is claimed. No add-on prices are published. The payroll promotion (1 August to 31 December 2026) and the 15% bundle and nonprofit discounts come from the same page. Notice periods and uplift sit in the order form.

Where the bill grows

A BambooHR bill is a per-employee rate plus whatever you bolt on. These are the places it moves.

Add-ons are not in the plan price

Payroll, Benefits Administration, Time and Attendance and Global Employment are all priced separately and none of their prices appear on the pricing page.

US-only add-ons

Payroll and Benefits Administration cover US employees only, so an international workforce needs other arrangements or the Global Employment add-on.

The 25-employee cliff

At 25 or fewer employees you pay a flat USD 250, USD 425 or USD 650 a month. A 10-person company pays USD 25 per employee on Core, not USD 10.

Automatic volume discounts cut both ways

Rates adjust with team size. Shrinking headcount can move you into a worse per-employee bracket at exactly the wrong moment.

Published rates are inconsistent

The main page shows USD 10 and USD 17 while the FAQ shows USD 10.25 and USD 17.50 for Core and Pro. On 100 employees that gap is USD 300 to USD 600 a year.

Implementation and multi-state payroll filing

The current payroll promotion explicitly excludes implementation and multi-state filing, which confirms both are chargeable.

Which BambooHR plan should you pick?

Core

Pick it if you need one reliable employee record, time off tracking and self-service, and performance reviews are handled elsewhere.

Pro

Pick it if HR is committing to formal performance review cycles, since performance management is not available on Core.

Elite

Pick it if compliance training at scale matters, since the 300-plus course library sits here.

Any plan plus Payroll and Benefits

Pick it if your workforce is US-based and you want the 15% bundle discount. The payroll promotion runs to 31 December 2026.

Our view

BambooHR at USD 10 per employee per month on Core is fairly priced for a company of 50 to 500 people that wants one clean system of record without an implementation project. Elite at USD 25 is harder to justify, because what you mainly gain over Pro is a compliance training library that many companies already buy elsewhere.

You may be overpaying if

You are under 26 employees and paying a flat rate well above the per-employee price, you moved to Pro for performance reviews that never launched, or you are on Elite for compliance training you also buy from another provider.

How to pay less for BambooHR

  1. Check which side of 25 employees you sit on

Flat rates of USD 250, USD 425 and USD 650 apply at 25 or fewer employees. Just over that line, per-employee pricing is usually cheaper, so model both.

  2. Bundle Payroll and Benefits for 15%

The pricing page offers a 15% discount when Payroll and Benefits Administration are combined with any plan, for US employees.

  3. Use the payroll promotion window

Qualifying customers on a 12-month minimum can get USD 0 Payroll subscription fees through 31 December 2026. Implementation and multi-state filing are excluded.

  4. Claim the nonprofit discount

Nonprofits get an additional 15% off on top of the standard rates.

  5. True up headcount before the term starts

Volume discounts adjust with team size, so make sure the headcount on the order form reflects reality and not a hiring plan.

  6. Pin the rate in writing

With USD 10 and USD 10.25 both published, get the exact per-employee rate and the volume bracket written into the order form before signing.

Keeping BambooHR spend under control

Headcount moves every quarter, and the per-employee bracket moves with it. Put the order form and the current headcount side by side 90 days before the term ends.

  • Get the quote in writing, line by line. Finance and HR systems are priced by employee, module and service. Ask for each module as its own line so you can remove one later.
  • Read the renewal clause first. Look for the uplift cap, the notice period and the rules on reducing headcount. Our contract management guide lists what to check.
  • Compare against alternatives with the same scope. A fair comparison needs the same modules and employee count on both sides. Use a vendor comparison matrix.
  • Plan for implementation cost. Setup, data migration and training often cost as much as a year of licences. Add them to the total cost of ownership.

Bottom line. Model both pricing shapes if you are near 25 people, price the payroll and benefits add-ons before you sign, and write the exact per-employee rate and bracket into the order form.

BambooHR pricing questions

How much does BambooHR cost per employee?

BambooHR costs USD 10 per employee per month on Core, USD 17 on Pro and USD 25 on Elite, with volume discounts applied automatically. The FAQ shows slightly higher figures of USD 10.25 and USD 17.50 for Core and Pro, so confirm your exact rate in the order form.

Is there a free version of BambooHR?

No. BambooHR has no free plan, and the pricing page does not mention a free trial either. The lowest commitment available is Core on a month-to-month term, at USD 10 per employee per month or a flat USD 250 a month at 25 or fewer employees.

How much is BambooHR for a small company?

At 25 or fewer employees BambooHR charges flat monthly rates of USD 250 for Core, USD 425 for Pro and USD 650 for Elite. A 10-person company therefore pays an effective USD 25 per employee per month on Core, not USD 10, so very small teams should compare carefully.

Can you get a discount on BambooHR?

Yes. Volume discounts apply automatically as team size changes, combining Payroll and Benefits Administration with any plan earns 15% off, and nonprofits get a further 15%. A payroll promotion also runs to 31 December 2026 for qualifying customers on a 12-month minimum.

Is BambooHR cheaper paid annually?

BambooHR publishes no annual discount percentage. It offers month-to-month or an extended term, with credit card and ACH for monthly billing and wire or cheque for annual upfront payment, so any benefit from committing longer has to be negotiated.

What is the cheapest alternative to BambooHR?

Gusto Simple at USD 49 a month plus USD 6 per person is cheaper for small US teams whose main need is payroll. Rippling starts at USD 8 per user per month plus a USD 40 monthly base fee, though exact pricing is quoted and not published.
