Pricing guide, Backend as a Service
Firebase product rates in plain numbers, the quotas that stay free, and the phone sign-in and auth costs that surprise teams.
The short answer
Firebase is free on the Spark plan, and Blaze charges only for usage beyond free quotas, such as USD 0.06 per 100,000 Firestore reads and USD 0.18 per 100,000 writes in the US multi-region. One app with 30 million reads and 6 million writes a month pays about USD 322 a year, or USD 2,686 with 20,000 phone sign-ins a month.

Firebase is free until it is not. The Spark plan covers prototypes and the Blaze plan has no monthly fee, so the bill depends entirely on how your app uses Firestore, Authentication, Hosting, Cloud Functions and Storage. Each product has its own free quota and unit price, which makes the total hard to predict.
This guide prices the products that drive most Firebase bills, using rates from Firebase's official pricing page and Google Cloud's pricing pages.
Prices below were recorded on 12 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works
Spark is free within fixed quotas, and some products, including Cloud Functions and Cloud Storage, are not available on it. Blaze keeps the Spark no-cost quotas and bills usage beyond them per product, with no plan fee. Firestore's free quota resets daily (50,000 reads, 20,000 writes and 20,000 deletes per day), while other products use monthly or daily quotas, and all no-cost quotas apply per project and not per app. Phone sign-in is billed per SMS after the first 10 each day.
The tier trap
Spark has no Cloud Functions, and since 3 February 2026 Cloud Storage buckets also require Blaze. Most production apps therefore move to Blaze early, which removes the free plan's built-in spending ceiling, so set budgets before you upgrade.
Read this first. Firestore rates use the nam5 (US multi-region) location from Google Cloud's Firestore pricing page (USD 0.06 reads, USD 0.18 writes, USD 0.02 deletes per 100,000, storage USD 0.000246575 per GiB-hour, about USD 0.18 per GiB-month). Single-region US locations such as us-central1 are USD 0.03, USD 0.09 and USD 0.01. The scenarios assume a 30-day month for the daily free quotas (1.5M reads and 600K writes free). Identity Platform MAU pricing applies to projects upgraded to Firebase Authentication with Identity Platform. The USD 300 Blaze credit is "if eligible" per the pricing page. The third and fourth plan cards are usage rates and not plans. The Spendflo URL is a vendor profile page, not a pricing guide.
Move the slider to see what each plan costs at your size. The figures use the list prices on this page and leave out tax, add-ons and any discount you negotiate.
Firebase bills by usage, so this table follows one app through 20,000 phone sign-ins a month and growth to 100,000 monthly active users.
| Scenario | Cost per year | Against the headline |
|---|---|---|
| Firestore, 30M reads and 6M writes a month in nam5 (1 project) | USD321.84 | Headline price |
| Add phone sign-in, 20,000 US verification SMS a month (1 project) | USD2,685.84 | +USD 2,364 |
| Auth grows to 100,000 MAUs on Identity Platform (1 project) | USD3,621.84 | +USD 3,300 |

| Feature | Spark | Blaze |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly plan fee | USD 0 | USD 0 |
| Firestore reads and writes | 50,000 and 20,000 a day | Free quota, then USD 0.06 and USD 0.18 per 100,000 (nam5) |
| Firestore storage | 1 GiB | 1 GiB free, then about USD 0.18 per GiB-month |
| Authentication MAUs | 50,000 | 50,000 free, then from USD 0.0055 per MAU |
| Phone sign-in SMS | Not listed | USD 0.01 per US SMS after 10 a day |
| Cloud Functions | Check page | 2M invocations free, then USD 0.40 per million |
| Cloud Storage | Check page | Billed at Google Cloud Storage rates |
| Hosting | 10 GB stored, 360 MB a day transfer | Then USD 0.026 per GB stored, USD 0.15 per GB transfer |
Features we could not place by plan: Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging. Check the official page for which plan includes each one.
Pick it if you are prototyping and your app fits within the daily free quotas without Functions or Storage.
Pick it if you need Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage or usage beyond the Spark quotas.
Pick it if you need SAML or OIDC sign-in or multi-factor authentication.
Pick it once usage is steady, to cut read and write rates by about 20% for 1 year or 40% for 3 years.
Our view
Firebase is excellent value for mobile and web apps at small to medium scale, because many products are free and Blaze has no base fee. It becomes expensive when apps lean on phone authentication, read-heavy real-time screens or multi-region databases, and the bill is harder to forecast than a flat-priced backend.
You may be overpaying if
You use phone sign-in where email links or social login would work, run a multi-region database for an app that only needs one region, or load whole collections when a narrower query would do.
Create Google Cloud budget alerts before upgrading to Blaze, because Blaze bills all usage beyond the free quotas.
A single-region US Firestore database costs half the nam5 rate per read, write and delete.
Offer email link, Google or Apple sign-in first and keep phone verification as a fallback.
Cache data on the client and paginate queries so screens read fewer documents.
Firestore committed-use discounts cut read and write prices by about 20% for 1 year and 40% for 3 years.
Eligible new Blaze users get USD 300 in credit, so use it to measure real usage before committing.

Every feature a developer ships changes read and write counts. The bill arrives through Google Cloud billing, and the person who wrote the query rarely sees it.
Bottom line. Prototype on Spark, move to Blaze when you need Functions or Storage, and set budgets the same day. Watch phone authentication and Firestore reads, which drive most surprises, and consider committed use once usage is stable.
Firebase has no monthly fee. Spark is free with fixed quotas, and Blaze bills only usage beyond those quotas, such as USD 0.06 per 100,000 Firestore reads and USD 0.18 per 100,000 writes in the US multi-region, and USD 0.40 per million Cloud Functions invocations after 2 million free.
Yes, within limits. The Spark plan includes 50,000 Firestore reads and 20,000 writes a day, 1 GiB of Firestore storage, 50,000 auth MAUs and 10 GB of Hosting storage. Analytics, Crashlytics and Cloud Messaging are free on any plan.
Blaze is Firebase's pay-as-you-go plan. It keeps the Spark free quotas, adds products like Cloud Functions and Cloud Storage, and bills usage beyond the free tier to your Google Cloud billing account. Eligible new users get USD 300 in credit.
Firebase has no plan discounts, but Firestore offers committed-use discounts of about 20% for one year and 40% for three years on reads and writes. Eligible new Blaze users also get USD 300 in free credit.
Sign-ins are free up to 50,000 monthly active users, then USD 0.0055 per MAU up to 100,000 on Identity Platform, falling to USD 0.0025 above 10 million. Phone sign-in also costs USD 0.01 per US SMS after 10 free a day.
Supabase has a free plan and a USD 25 a month Pro plan with predictable pricing, and MongoDB Atlas Flex starts at USD 8 a month. For hosting only, AWS Amplify charges USD 0.15 per GB served after its free tier.
