Datadog pricing in 2026: host, APM and log costs stacked up

Every Datadog product rate in plain numbers, why the bill outgrows the quote, and the log and APM costs that stack on top of hosts.

The short answer

Datadog Infrastructure costs USD 15 per host per month on Pro and USD 23 on Enterprise billed annually (USD 18 and USD 27 on demand), with APM from USD 31 per host and logs at USD 0.10 per ingested GB plus USD 1.70 per million indexed events. A 100-host team pays USD 18,000 a year on Pro, or USD 55,200 with APM.

Datadog plans and prices

Datadog has a reputation finance teams know well: a reasonable per-host price attached to a bill that keeps outgrowing the forecast. Both halves are true. USD 15 per host per month is not expensive, and the invoice still arrives bigger than the quote.

The reason is that Datadog is a basket of separately metered products and not a single subscription. This guide prices the ones most teams buy, infrastructure monitoring, APM and logs, and shows where the gap between the quote and the invoice opens up.

Prices below were recorded on 17 October 2026. The headline figure is the lowest price you can get for that plan. Check the official page before you buy, because vendors change prices without notice.

How billing works

Datadog is a basket of separately metered products on one invoice, which is why the quote you sign and the bill you get rarely match. Infrastructure Monitoring is priced per host per month and is cheaper on an annual commitment than on demand: USD 15 against USD 18 on Pro and USD 23 against USD 27 on Enterprise. APM is charged per host on top of infrastructure, starting at USD 31 per host per month annually with Infrastructure Monitoring attached, or USD 36 standalone billed annually. Log Management splits in two: ingestion at USD 0.10 per ingested or scanned GB per month, the same whether you commit annually or not, and indexing at USD 1.70 per million log events per month at 15-day retention billed annually, or USD 2.55 on demand. Indexed log events run against a monthly commitment, and Datadog's billing docs state that usage above that commitment is charged as on-demand usage with a 50% premium.

The tier trap

APM is the upgrade that reprices the whole estate. Adding it to Infrastructure Pro takes you from USD 15 to USD 46 per host per month, roughly tripling the bill, and APM Pro and APM Enterprise push the APM component to USD 35 and USD 40.

Read this first. All Datadog prices were read on the official pricing page on 17 October 2026, and the 50% on-demand premium on indexed log events comes from Datadog's billing docs. Datadog's rule that hosts are billed on a percentile of the hourly host count is not stated on the pages read, so it is left out. Check Datadog's infrastructure billing docs, because it changes how a host count should be read. Datadog lists 3, 7, 15, 30 and over-30-day log retention tiers but publishes a price only for 15 days. Metric retention for Pro and Enterprise is not published. The trial length is not published on the pricing page. The calculator shows each plan on its own, so for APM add the Infrastructure price per host. No dated Datadog price change was found.

Where the bill grows

A Datadog bill is several per-host and per-volume meters at once. These are the places it moves.

The 50% on-demand premium on logs

Indexed log events run against a monthly commitment, and Datadog's docs state that usage above it is billed as on-demand with a 50% premium. One noisy deployment can land in that band.

Ingestion and indexing are two charges

Logs cost USD 0.10 per ingested or scanned GB and then USD 1.70 per million indexed events at 15-day retention. Teams budget for one and get billed for both.

Scanned GB counts as ingested

The USD 0.10 per GB rate applies to ingested or scanned GB, so rehydrating and searching archived logs adds to the same meter.

On-demand pricing across every product

Without an annual commitment, Pro is USD 18 instead of USD 15, Enterprise USD 27 instead of USD 23, APM USD 36 instead of USD 31 and log indexing USD 2.55 instead of USD 1.70.

Each product is a separate per-host meter

Infrastructure, APM and Logs are priced independently, so turning on a new product stacks a new rate on top of the old one.

Retention tiers without published prices

Datadog lists 3, 7, 15, 30 and over-30-day log retention tiers but only publishes a price for 15 days, so longer retention has to be quoted.

Which Datadog plan should you pick?

Infrastructure Free

Pick it if you monitor 5 hosts or fewer and 1-day metric retention is enough.

Infrastructure Pro

Pick it for most cloud estates, at USD 15 per host per month on an annual commitment.

Infrastructure Enterprise

Pick it if you need the enterprise infrastructure feature set and can justify USD 23 per host per month.

Pro or Enterprise plus APM

Pick it if you need distributed tracing, accepting that APM adds at least USD 31 per host per month.

Our view

Datadog is worth the price when you run several of its products together and the link between metrics, traces and logs shortens real incidents. For a team that only needs host metrics and a dashboard, USD 15 per host per month is a premium rate for a job that cheaper tools and free tiers do adequately.

You may be overpaying if

You index logs you never search, you pay on-demand rates because nobody signed the annual commitment, or you turned on APM across the whole fleet when only a handful of services are traced.

How to pay less for Datadog

  1. Commit annually on every product

Pro at USD 15 against USD 18, Enterprise at USD 23 against USD 27, APM at USD 31 against USD 36 and log indexing at USD 1.70 against USD 2.55 are all annual-versus-on-demand gaps.

  2. Stop indexing logs you never query

Ingestion is USD 0.10 per GB but indexing is USD 1.70 per million events. Filtering what gets indexed attacks the expensive half of the log bill.

  3. Size the log commitment realistically

Overage above your monthly indexed-event commitment carries a 50% premium, so a commitment set slightly above real volume beats one set too low.

  4. Scope APM to the services that need it

APM adds at least USD 31 per host per month. Tracing the services that page you, and not the whole fleet, is the biggest single saving available.

  5. Audit the host count before renewal

Datadog bills per host, so decommissioned and duplicated hosts are pure waste. Reconcile the host list against your cloud inventory before you commit.

  6. Take a competing quote into the renewal

Grafana Cloud Pro starts at a USD 19 a month platform fee plus usage, and New Relic gives 100 GB of ingest a month free. Both are credible reference points.

What other buyers report

Vendr reports a median Datadog buyer spend of USD 154,080 a year, with contracts ranging from USD 21,272 to USD 716,298 and buyers saving about 10% on average, based on 1,141 purchases (page last updated February 2026). Source

Hi [account manager],

Our Datadog [plan] subscription renews on [renewal date]. Over the last 90 days, [active hosts] of the [paid hosts] we pay for used it.

We would like to renew with [target hosts] on a [term] term. Before we sign, please send:
1. The current list price and the price you are offering us, line by line.
2. The cap on any price increase at the next renewal.
3. The notice period if we want to cut hosts or move to another plan.

We are comparing this against [alternative] and plan to decide by [decision date]. If you can offer [target discount] percent off list, or a lower price for a longer term, we are ready to talk this week.

Datadog alternatives and what they cost

If this vendor does not fit, these are the closest options and what they charge.

New RelicUSD0 for the first 100 GB of ingest a month and one full platform userYour estate is small or bursty and the free ingest allowance covers most of it

Keeping Datadog spend under control

Engineers switch products on and the bill arrives monthly. Nobody signs a purchase order for another log index.

  • Set budgets and alerts. Usage bills grow without anyone signing anything. Set a monthly budget and an alert at 80 percent of it.
  • Tag cost to a team. Give every project an owner so a bill can be traced. Our spend management software guide covers the controls to look for.
  • Review commitments before renewal. Committed spend discounts only pay off if you use the commitment. Compare 12 months of real use with the plan before you renew, using a renewal tracker.
  • Count the full cost, not the list price. Support, egress, extra seats and add-ons change the real figure. Our total cost of ownership guide shows how to add it up.

Bottom line. Datadog earns its rate for teams that use several products together and cut real incident time with them, and it punishes teams that index logs they never read. Resize the commitments, scope APM deliberately, and treat the renewal as a review of what you used and not what you turned on.
