Frequently Asked Questions

The most important vendor KPIs depend on vendor type and business priority. Universally important: On-Time Delivery (OTD%), Invoice Accuracy Rate, and SLA Compliance Rate. For direct materials: Defect Rate (PPM) and Order Fill Rate. For technology vendors: System Uptime and Incident Response Time. For all strategic vendors: Savings Delivery and Contract Compliance Rate.

On-Time Delivery (OTD) is the percentage of purchase orders delivered on or before the confirmed delivery date. Calculation: (Orders delivered on time ÷ Total orders delivered) × 100. Industry target: >95% for most categories; >98% for critical-path or just-in-time supply. OTD is consistently the most tracked supply chain KPI.

PPM (Parts Per Million) is a quality metric measuring the number of defective units per one million units delivered. Calculation: (Number of defective units ÷ Total units delivered) × 1,000,000. Targets vary significantly by industry: automotive often targets <50 PPM; general manufacturing <500 PPM; less quality-intensive categories <2,000 PPM.

SLA Compliance Rate = (Number of SLA obligations met in the period ÷ Total SLA obligations in the period) × 100. SLA obligations are individual contractual commitments — each response time target, availability commitment, and delivery standard counts as one obligation. Target: >99% for technology and critical service vendors.
